Apple Pickin’ 🍎

Hello Fall

I am writing this on the very first day of fall, and isn’t this the most glorious season? Like every other basic girl, I live for this time of year. My busy bee self loves to plan and jam pack as many festive fall events as possible into this season. I kicked off fall early, with a little apple picking. I have the best lil spot for you guys to visit.

Apple Pickin’

Recently, I visited the sweetest orchard located in Morganton, North Carolina. Apple Hill Orchard & Cider Mill is the perfect place to get your fall on. Stroll through the rows and rows of beautiful apple trees. I love all the varieties of apples they had, even some that I had never heard of! My favorite part, there’s a bake shop and gift store on the grounds too. You will definitely want to take home some homemade apple butter like I did.

My good friend, and profressional photographer was my apple picking buddy. We kept raving about how this is the perfect place to take pictures. If you have little ones, pack a blanket and do an impromptu photoshoot here. The orchard is so picturesque, I know your pictures will turn out great! Once you’ve picked a full basket, go home and whip up a sweet treat. What a perfect fall day that would be.

Picking these apples made me think about my Mama’s homemade fried apple pies. Man alive, are they good! I knew I had to try my hand at making them, and with her quick and easy recipe they turned out so good! You’ll have to make them too!

LuAnn’s Fried Apple Pies

(You need: apples, canned or frozen biscuits, butter, nutmeg, cinnamon, sugar, Crisco or vegetable oil, and powdered sugar for garnish)

  1. Peel and slice apples. Cook on stove top with a half inch of standing water. Let water cookout.

  2. Once cooked, mash apples until they became like a pie filling.

  3. Take apple filling and mix with a generous amount of: cinnamon, nutmeg, sugar & a dash of salt. Set aside to cool.

  4. Taking thawed canned or frozen biscuits roll out your biscuit dough.

  5. Fill center of biscuits with apple filling, about two tablespoons.

  6. Fold biscuits over to make a turnover. Wet edges with water, and crimp with a fork.

  7. Deep fry turnovers in a deep pan, fry until golden brown on each side.

  8. Remove, and drain on a paper towel. Sprinkle with powdered sugar!

Hope you guys enjoy this recipe, as much as I did. I love that it’s a no fail recipe. You can’t use too much of anything, it’s all good in this simple and old-fashioned recipe. Here’s to the start of an amazing fall y’all!
