Charleston, South Carolina
One of the beautiful things about living in the Carolina’s, is that you’re never far from the ultimate southern town; Charleston, South Carolina. Charleston is in a league of its own, when it comes to the South’s finest.
The first week in December, I always take a mini birthday trip. This year, I celebrated my 30th in true southern-girl fashion! We basically ate and drank our way through Charleston, but there’s so much more than great food here! I’m sharing the run down on this fun getaway, and how to recreate it for yourself!
CHARLESTON EATS
When you come to Charleston, you have to fully submit yourself to the southern cuisine. Don’t try to stray away, stay the course, and you will become a southerner at heart… as far as your tastebuds go!
Millers All Day // This retro diner is such a cute breakfast spot! I didn’t know lattes and biscuits went together so well, until I dined at Millers!
Callie’s Hot Little Biscuit // The ultimate biscuit experience! To avoid long lines, I suggest checking out the one in the City Market.
Big Bad Breakfast // Another great breakfast choice. Hit this place up on your way out of town!
Poogan’s Porch // Hands down, this was our favorite food spot of our trip! Go for breakfast, lunch or dinner, it doesn’t matter because it’s going to be amazing! Favorite part was the sweet biscuits they brought to the table, and the fried okra… can’t forget that memorable okra!
Husk // With an ever changing seasonal menu, and locally sourced ingredients, Husk is sure to impress. Chic and casual at the same time, all while serving up elevated southern cuisine.
CHARLESTON SHOPPING
Historic Charleston City Market // Shop four city blocks worth of handmade goods and trinkets. If you’re looking for a Charleston souvenir then you can find it here!
King Street // You can spend all day shopping on King Street. There’s high-end stores, chic boutiques and antique shops lining this charming and historic street.
CHARLESTON COFFEE
Handy + Hot // Coffee shop by day and bar by night. This was convienent to our hotel, and we hit it up everyday… sometimes twice a day!
Bitty & Beau’s Coffee // As their slogan says “It’s more than a cup of coffee.” You’re promised a unique experience at this adorable coffee shop.
CHARLESTON ROOFTOP BARS
The Rooftop at Vendue // Rated Charleston’s number one rooftop bar since 2007! Be sure to go to the top level for views of Charleston Harbor, and beautiful church steeples.
The Watch // We had dinner one night on the rooftop terrace, and it was so romantic! Grab a burger here but still feel fancy!
CHARLESTON HOTELS
Renaissance Charleston Historic District // This hotel is in an excellent location to shopping, restaurants and many more Charleston hot spots! Not to mention, it’s super chic, and has a great lobby for Insta pics! Our room had an amazing view too! I can not say enough great things about The Renaissance Charleston!
CHARLESTON PHOTO WORTHY SPOTS
Rainbow Row // Probably the most note-worthy spot in all of Charleston is Rainbow Row. Colorful historic homes lined up one by one. Have fun strolling this happy neighborhood!
Pineapple Fountain // Another iconic Charleston photo op is the Pineapple Fountain. Take advantage of this waterfront park by going out on the pier.
Charleston City Market // Another really cute and picturesque spot are the stairs outside the entrance of the Charleston City Market!
CHARLESTON ACTIVITIES
Ghost Tour // Whenever I’m in a city rich in history, I love to do a ghost tour at night! This trip we did the Darkside of Charleston tour, and it was so good! When in Charleston, I always book with Bulldog Tours.
Bulldog Tours - Offers much more than ghost tours! They have food, history, and even private group tours!
Carriage Ride // To fully capture the Charleston experience, you need to do a carriage ride!
Old South Carriage Tours - The number one carriage company in all of Charleston!
Plantation Tour // Step back in time, as you walk around the stunning grounds of a Charleston plantation.
Magnolia Plantation and Gardens - Charleston’s most visited plantation.
In my book, it’s always a good day to explore the South. There’s something about Charleston’s southern charm that leaves you enamored with this city. Maybe its the biscuits, or the warm welcomes, but you’re going to be saying “Let’s stay a little longer.”
